Thomas Norman Dundas August 20, 1947 - March 5, 2025
Tommy was born on August 20, 1947, in Richmond, California, and grew up in Pleasant Hill, California. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1965, marking the beginning of a life full of dedication and love for his family, friends, and country.
In 1966, Tommy made the proactive decision to volunteer for the Army, anticipating that he would likely be drafted. By volunteering, he hoped to secure a better role and avoid assignment to the Marines or infantry. He honorably served his country in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Interestingly, it was later revealed that his draft number would not have been called, meaning he wouldn’t have been drafted after all. Nevertheless, Tommy’s dedication to service shone through, and he was honorably discharged in 1968, reflecting his steadfast commitment to his country.
After returning home, Tommy pursued his education at Sonoma State University, where he graduated in 1974 with a BA in Sociology. His career path reflected his hardworking and versatile nature—starting in real estate and title services in 1973, transitioning to construction in 1981, and later returning to title service in 1993. Tommy retired from Fidelity Title Service in 2004, leaving a legacy of professionalism and dedication.
Tommy's heart was as big as his love for life. Road trips on America's backroads, foodie stops inspired by Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, his frequent visits to Reno, NV for games of chance (slots and Keno), NASCAR racing, and his passion for America's railroads—all things trains and railroads—brought him immense joy. Tommy's mornings often began with McDonald’s coffee as he immersed himself in reading the newspaper, with a particular interest in the obituaries. He adored his daughter and granddaughters, cherished his friends, and had a passion for The Rams, John Wayne, Daffy Duck, and Disneyland. He was a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone, remembered everyone’s phone number by heart, and was always there to help in times of need.
He leaves behind his daughter Theresa, future son-in-law, Paul Maytorena, beloved granddaughters, Alexis, Caty, Brooke, and Taum; his brother John and sister-in-law Marilyn; his niece Lorrie (and her daughters, Grace and Mary Kathryn), his nephew Mark (and his wife Jen, and their children Jonah, Whitney, Hannah, and Ella). His former wife, Lisa Dundas, who kept her married name after their divorce in 1982, remained an important part of his story.
Tommy's life was marked by love, laughter, and loyalty, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
