According to a cousin of John's he died January 16, 1981 of cancer in the town of Central, Pickens County, South Carolina. He was teaching in South Carolina at the time.
John was a roomate of mine my freshman year in college at UC Davis. He was quite reserved in high school but not so in college. I lost track of him sometime after that. I have always wondered what happened to him.

John became a professor at the University of Wisconsin and
died in that first year. Russ Smith and I visited his
family. He died from an illness.

I first met John in 7th grade at Pleasant Hill Intermediate ( now the site of "Pleasant Hill Middle School". I am sad to hear of his too-early death.
