Nicolas Nicolayeff

Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on January 9, 2022, of Covid Pneumonia, after putting up a good fight.

Nick Nicolayeff was born December 21, 1947, in Casablanca, Morocco. The family emigrated to the US in July of 1961. He served in the US Army in the Vietnam War. He lived in Idaho Falls since 1982 working for the Department of Energy as an auditor. He spent his last days surrounded by his family and passed peacefully.

Nick is survived by his wife, Betsy, of 47 years; three children, Nadine, Nick (Andrea), and Alex (Katrina); four grandchildren, AJ, Avery, Chloe, and Nicolas; brother, Vladimir (Chris); sister, Olga (Kim); three nieces and two nephews.

Through the years, he enjoyed his family in many ways – camping; traveling; mushrooming; cooking for others; hunting with his sons, Nick and Alex; antiquing with son, Alex, and grandson, AJ; clothes hunting with Nadine; reading and telling stories to his grandchildren.

Thank you to Idaho Falls Community Hospital, Dr. Morton, Dr. Speirs, and the wonderful nurses for his great care.

Nick was a very caring, generous, and extraordinary person. He was very loved and will be missed by so many people. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He made people feel good around him and had time to chat with anyone he came across. He was the life of the party and the light of our lives.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sorry to hear about Nick. He was one of the more interesting students. His accent, his jokes. I was next to him in Physics. He got me through it.

It was nice to reconnect with Nick over the last few years. It seemed he and his family were all doing well. Rest in peace Nick and save me a seat at the big poker table in the sky...
You 'done good.'
